PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for well binding hinokitiol to a low-molecular weight silica compound, silica sol or gel, etc.;SOLUTION: A solution of preferably equimolar amounts of cupric chloride or zinc chloride and the hinokitiol in an alcohol is concentrated to remove hydrochloric acid as much as possible. The resultant concentrate is cooled to deposit a crystal of a compound composed of one molecule of the hinokitiol and one atom each of copper or zinc and chlorine. The resultant deposited compound is then reacted with a silica compound having silanol groups preferably in the presence of tetramethoxyammonium hydroxide in an alcohol solvent.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
