PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a volume reduction liquefying agent for foamed polystyrene and a method of the volume reduction liquefaction of the foamed polystyrene which can obtain a thermally decomposed product of certain quality by efficiently thermally decomposing the foamed polystyrene in a short period of time and, simultaneously, under low temperature conditions to effect liquefaction and volume reduction. PSOLUTION: The volume reduction liquefying agent for the foamed polystyrene comprises at least one of -methylstyrene and 2,4-diphenyl-4-methyl-1-pentene, and an organic peroxide. The method of the volume reduction liquefaction of the foamed polystyrene by thermal decomposition to effect the liquefaction reduction of the foamed polystyrene comprises using the above foamed polystyrene volume reduction liquefying agent.
