PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new prosthesis for improving the physiological loading on the bone to reduce stress shielding type pain and to reduce the probability of a stem fracture of a long bone.;SOLUTION: A joint prosthesis 10 for cooperation with the long bone 12 and a second bone 26 for use in arthroplasty is provided. A cavity 20 is formed in the long bone 12 and defined by an inner wall 30 of the long bone 12. The joint prosthesis has a stem component 32 including a distal portion 34 at least partially placed within the cavity of the long bone and secured to the long bone, and defining a longitudinal axis 36; and a bearing 40 placed in the cavity between the stem component and the long bone so that the distal portion of the stem component is spaced from the inner wall of the long bone.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
