PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a precise bulkhead at a low cost by applying a mixture of ceramic powder or glass powder with a binder to a plate material consisting of ceramic or glass, and rotating a roll having a plurality of grooves formed thereon while pressurizing the applied surface by the surface of the roll. ;SOLUTION: Electrodes 5 are formed at prescribed intervals on one surface of a back plate 2 consisting of ceramic or glass, and a paste of a mixture of ceramic or glass powder with a binder is applied onto the back plate 2. After drying, the surface of a roll 13 having circumferential grooves 12 of prescribed width and depth formed thereon at prescribed intervals is brought into contact with the applied surface of the paste, and rotated while pressurizing it, whereby the paste is penetrated into the circumferential grooves 12 of the roll 13 and compacted to form a bulkhead on the back plate 2. Thereafter, the bulkhead is hardened by thermal treatment to provide a substrate. When the roll 13 is preliminarily manufactured with a high precision, a highly precise bulkhead can be easily formed, and even a substrate having a large dimension can be thus manufactured.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
