The invention relates to a test system for identifying or testing active substances, which affect the growth and the survival of nerve cells. According to said system, a cell is brought into contact with at least one prospective active substance. At least one of the ribonucleoproteins hnRNP-R and/or hnRNP-Q and/or a splicing isoform of hnRNP-R and/or hnRNP-Q is then determined in said cell and the quantity of this ribonucleotide that has been determined is compared with the quantity of said ribonucleoprotein in a cell that has not been brought into contact with the prospective active substance. The invention also relates to the active substances which can be obtained using a test system of this type.
