The invention relates to a method and device for recovering a code word from a received faulty code word, according to which the faulty code word is firstly received (5100). The code word comprises code units and is derived from one or more information units by means of a redundancy code. Once the faulty code word is received, code units that are faulty or not present in the code word (5110) are determined and a de-dotting model is adapted (5112) in response to these code units. The received, faulty code word is then de-dotted (5114) based on the adapted de-dotting model thereby de-dotting the code unit that is faulty or not present in the code word.
