The invention relates to a snaffle bit with two side rings (20, 22) and a shackle (24) arranged between said rings (20, 22). The shackle has at least one hinged joint (26, 28) and two side sections. One of the rings (20, 22) is freely and moveably accommodated in a bore hole (32). Said bore hole is disposed at the end of each of the side sections at a distance from the at least one hinged joint (26, 28). The axes (42) of both bore holes (32) define a plane that runs at an angle of 45° ± 20°, preferably 45° ± 10°, to the angle of articulation (34, 36) of the at least one hinged joint (26, 28).
