A scintillator (1) is positioned in the beam path of ionizing radiation to be detected so that scintillation light is generated, the intensity of which is proportional to the dose or the irradiating beam. The light intensity transmitted from the scintillator is equal to the scintillation light and light from one or more other sources, e.g. Cerenkov radiation sources.
