PURPOSE: A method for checking a state of a member of an instant messenger in a standby state of a mobile phone is provided to allow a user to check a state of desired ones of members of an instant messenger even without a particular button manipulation in a standby state. CONSTITUTION: A user selects a screen setting item among menu items and presses an OK selection button(S700). A mobile phone displays the screen setting menu on a screen(S702). A user selects a standby IM list display setting menu and presses the OK selection button(S704). The mobile phone displays the IM list display setting menu on the screen(S706). The user selects a member to be displayed on a standby screen among the displayed menu items(S708). The mobile phone displays an item selected by the user on the standby screen(S710).
