PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for limiting seeing and hearing of a DVD player are provided to protect juveniles from harmful video contents. CONSTITUTION: When a disc is inserted into a DVD player(300), a parental level recorded in the disc is compared with a parental level set in the DVD player(302). When the parental level recorded in the disc is higher than the parental level set in the DVD player, a user is requested to input a password(303). When the password input by the user is not identical to a password set in the DVD player, title information of the disc is stored(306), a tray is closed(307) and the DVD player is turned off(308). When the DVD player is operated again, the user is requested to input a password. When the password is identical to the password set in the DVD player(311), the tray is opened(312) and the title information of the disc and the parental level are displayed(313).
