PURPOSE: A method for recognizing an iris using the wavelet transform regardless of location change is provided to remarkably reduce a false acceptance rate and a false rejection rate by extracting a minutia of the iris from an iris image signal through the wavelet transform. CONSTITUTION: The image signal is divided into sub bands by performing the wavelet transform to the iris image passing a pretreatment. A minutia vector is generated by extracting a value of the information forming a low capacity minutia vector through the extraction of the minutia from the divided sub bands and quantizing the corresponding values. A user is certified by measuring the accordance of the generated minutia vector and the previously stored minutia vector.
