PURPOSE: A memory device for being effectively applied to flash memory cards, hard disk-compatible flash disks, and the like is provided to prevent risk of data garbling due to cumulative impact of disturbances in memory areas by performing a replacement processing operation to replace memory areas. CONSTITUTION: A memory device includes a non-volatile memory and a control circuit. The non-volatile memory(2,4) has an erasing function and a writing function. The control circuit(5) control to replace operation of a memory area at a prescribed timing. The replacement processing operation is accomplished by writing stored data in a first memory area in which the rewriting number is relatively infrequent into an unused second memory area. In addition, in the replacement processing operation, a second memory area is used instead of the first memory area.
