PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for controlling a bell sound of a mobile terminal through detection of static electricity are provided to stop or reduce a bell sound once a user takes hold of a mobile terminal by detecting static electricity. CONSTITUTION: A mobile terminal is in a standby mode(10). If a call signal is received, a user recognizes it through a bell sound or vibration of the mobile terminal(20). Static electricity of the user's hand is sensed(30). The sensed static electricity signal of the user is amplified(40). Capacity of the amplified static electricity and its duration are measured(50). The measured capacity of the static electricity and duration are compared with pre-set values(60). It is determined whether the capacity of the static electricity and duration are satisfying the pre-set values(70). If the capacity of the static electricity and duration are satisfying, a bell sound is reduced or prevented(80).
