PURPOSE: A method for recording a broadcasting program in a PVR(Personal Video Recorder) system is provided to selectively record a broadcasting program at various bit rates based on an amount of generated data of the broadcasting program to be recorded and a remaining capacity of a storage medium, thereby effectively preventing an unwanted broadcasting program from being deleted. CONSTITUTION: While a user watches a broadcasting program(302), if the user selects a recording of the broadcasting program(304), a command signal for a recording request generated from a remote controller is transmitted to a control block. The control block predicts an amount of generated data of the broadcasting program(306), and detects a remaining storage capacity which can record a broadcasting signal(308). The control block checks whether the amount of the generated data is bigger than the remaining storage capacity(310). If the amount of the generated data is smaller, the control block records the broadcasting signal in a broadcasting signal storage area of a storage medium at original bit rate(316).
