The brick has a hollow cavity (Ziegelhohlraum) which may be open at both ends. Loosely packed mineral wool (Mineralwolle) is placed on a lower plate (Korper B) with a spacer and is compressed by lowering a top plate (Korper A). When the distance between the plates is less than the dimensions of the cavity, the plates with the compressed mineral wool are inserted into the cavity. The top plate is then withdrawn and the mineral wool expands up to the top of the cavity. The bottom plate is then withdrawn, leaving the mineral wool in the cavity.
