The device has a signal input for a manually operated emergency signal device (7), a signal input for a gearbox (2) sensor, a signal output for a starter (4) arranged on the engine (3) and a signal output for a starter lock in control electronics (6) that automatically inhibits operation of the starter under defined conditions. The effect of the starter lock in the control electronics can be deactivated by a signal applied to the signal output for the starter lock if a predefined signal is applied to the signal input for the emergency signal device.
