Monitor, for testing for oil in water, has white light through monitor chamber for detection by direct/scattered light sensors sensitive to blue/red, with signal processing to give value independent of emulsion level
Photo-electric monitor system, to detect the presence of oil in water, has a white light beamed through the monitor chamber. Behind the monitor chamber are sensors sensitive to blue and red light, and both intensity values are added together. The scattered light is registered by sensors sensitive to blue and red light, and their intensity values are added together. Photo-electric monitor system, to detect the presence of oil in water, has a white light beamed through the monitor chamber. Behind the monitor chamber, the intensity of the direct light is registered by sensors (5.1,5.2) sensitive to blue and red light, and both intensity values are added together (SD). The scattered light is registered by sensors (6.1,6.2) sensitive to blue and red light, and their intensity values are added together (SS). A proportional quotient (QA) is derived from both additions to give an oil constituent signal. A direct light quotient (QD) and a scattered light quotient (QS) are obtained from the intensity values of the direct light and scattered light sensors which, together, give a correction quotient (QK) to correct the oil constituent quotients. The corrected oil constituent signal is independent of the level of oil emulsion in the water.
