Winder, particularly for flat yarns, includes control of length of free yarn between traverse guide and bobbin surface

Yarn (7) is guided by a reciprocating traverse guide (6) on to a rotating bobbin (1), with a free length of yarn (S) between the guide (6) and bobbin surface. The portion of the length (Se) lying in a plane perpendicular to the bobbin axis (12) is controlled to be a monotonic function of the bobbin diameter (Ds) during the duration of the bobbin build by adjusting the geometrical relationship of the various components. An Independent claim is also included for a winder fulfilling these conditions. The yarn guide (6) and bobbin can be moved relative to each other so that the function is strictly monotonic, i.e. continuously decreasing but especially continuously increasing. Preferably the location of friction drive roller (4) and traverse drive (5) is fixed and the bobbin (1) is moved horizontally during the bobbin build. The tube diameter (Dsh) is preferably 75 mm, the friction roll diameter (Df) is 79 to 81 mm, and the vertical distance to the traverse guide (Dwfv) is 62 to 68 mm.
