The device has a high frequency electrical energy source with a coaxial waveguide structure forming a resonator chamber into which the HF energy is fed at one end of the inner conductor, whose other end protrudes into the relevant combustion chamber. A microwave plasma is generated at this end. A circuit (3) for producing and/or amplifying the HF energy has a feedback network (T1,T2) for power matching of the circuit to a variable load impedance.
