Method for encoding structured or script language documents, especially XML-documents, in which in a first step the structure of the script or schema is (XMLS) is normalized, whereby groups with elements or attributes are simplified, the encoding method (BiM-E) is used to generate a bit-stream (BS1) from a normalized script dependent on a metascript (SS) or schema. An Independent claim is made for a device for encoding structured or script documents, especially XML documents.
