The lifting system (10) for personnel performing overhead work has a gondola (22), mounted at an angle at the top of a sloping telescopic arm whose slope may be varied (WL). The arm is pivoted (18) at is lower end and is moved by a first hydraulic actuator. The arm is extended by a telescopic actuator attached to the ends of the arm and lying parallel to the arm. When the arm is retracted, the gondola is accommodated in a space behind the cab of the utility vehicle or tractor (28) close to the rear axle (64).
