Compositions of (A) polyether base oil, (B) thickener and (C) other additives, in which at least 20% of the ether units in (A) are poly-tetrahydrofuran units and the content of (B) is such as to give a Walk penetration value of 130-475 mm/10 at 25 degrees C. Compositions containing (A) base oil(s), (B) thickener(s) and optionally (C) other additives, in which (A) is a polyether compound in which at least 20% of the ether units have the formula -O-(CH2)4- (I), the content of (A) and (C) is at least 40 wt% and 0-60 wt% respectively, and the content of (B) is such as to give a Walk penetration value of 130-475 mm/10 at 25 degrees C.
