Device for 2D distance measurement has a camera (10) for recording images in an observation space (R) of points (A, B) at a distance from each other and first (20) and second (30) light sources for illumination of the observation points, whereby the light beams can be: parallel and convergent or divergent, convergent and divergent, convergent with both having different convergence or both divergent with different divergence. An evaluation unit is for determining the distance between the points based on the video camera image. An Independent claim is made for a method for 2D measurement of the space between points in an observation area.
