The container (1) for installing inside a motor vehicle has a housing (2) and a hinged spring-loaded cover flap rotatably mounted on the housing and provided with a lock released by a pushbutton. The pushbutton (16) and a locking catch of the lock form a common component which is pivotably mounted on the inner side of the cover flap (8) so that with pressing on the pushbutton the locking catch freely hinges from a recess formed on the upper side of the housing. The cover flap is moved automatically by at least one spring element into its open position.
