The sheet feeder comprises a stacking plate (3), a sheet separator, a stack stop grid (7) upon which lies the sheet stack by its front side, and a flap shaft (14) connected to the stack stop grid. The stack stop grid, the flap shaft and the stacking plate form a functional unit which is installed in the sheet feeder in or opposite the transporting direction (11), and also pivotable around an axis extending perpendicularly to the transporting direction. Between the stack stop grid and the stacking grid is a connection enabling a lifting and lowering movement and guiding the movement of the stack stop grid.
