To swing the guard (8) over the injection molding unit (1), when docking with the mold (4) takes place, a purely-mechanical mechanism transmits the required force. This is fitted outside the nozzle channel location. Guard (8) and mechanism (9) are mounted on a carrier (16) which can be rotated in position on the injection unit (1). The mechanism includes a sensing rod (10) which is adjustable linearly, against the feed direction of the injection equipment. This contacts a stop surface (15) to the side of the injection opening (6). Mechanism and guard are self-adjusting into the covering position. The mechanism is spring-loaded into the covering position. The guard is circular and is arranged to swing around a pivot on the injection unit. The change-over point of the mechanism is adjustable. A sensor (19, 20) monitors the guard position.
