Method for controlling a proportional valve (6) that has a valve member (8) that is acted on by a force. Opening of the valve, at least within a certain range, is proportional to the force applied to the valve member. A set position of the valve member that is achieved with a set force has an additional force that alternates about a null value superimposed on it. The invention also relates to a corresponding proportional valve control system.
