An optical-optical device comprising: - an input for a coherent optical signal carrying a set of digital data; - an active waveguide optically connected to the said input for the propagation of the said coherent optical signal, the said active waveguide having a first and a second end and being capable of generating highly incoherent light; - a pump source for pumping the said active waveguide and obtaining a predetermined gain; and - an output, optically connected to the said second end of the said active waveguide, for the exclusive output of at least part of the said highly incoherent light; in which the said coherent optical signal has a power and a wavelength selected in such a way that the said set of digital data which it carries is transferred to the said highly incoherent light during its propagation in the said active waveguide.
