The drum brake has an automatic adjuster with an extendable spacer (7) to take up the play as the shoes become worn. The extendable spacer contains a lever (13), mounted to pivot on a plate, and a lever arm co- operating with a toothed dowel (14) mounted to rotate on the plate. The other arm co-operates with the first brake shoe, whilst the other end of the support plate co-operates with the second.
