Computer-based method for designing a protection zone around the danger zone (12) of a machine (10), whereby an operator defines machine parameters, a protection zone is calculated by the computer based on machine parameters and the computer determines a combination (20) of safety mats (21, 22) suitable for covering the protection zone. The mat combination is based on a catalogue of available safety mats and their sizes. The invention also relates to a corresponding computer system.
