Process for the production of a homogeneous shaped body of SiO2, very close to its final shape and close to the final dimensions, characterized in that the amorphous SiO2 particles, comprising larger amorphous SiO2 particles and SiO2 particles amorphous in size smaller, are deposited by electrophoresis from an aqueous dispersion on a non-conductive membrane of electricity, whose shape and geometry correspond to the shaped body of SiO2 to be manufactured, and that the membrane has a size of average pore larger than the average size of the smaller amorphous SiO2 particles.
