PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To authenticate the owner of a relevant device by means of an existing card that the owner always carries about. PSOLUTION: A personal digital assistant device comprises a magnetic head 15 for reading owner data D1 from a magnetic card 2, an EEPROM 18 for storing the owner data D1 acquired from the magnetic head 15 as authentication data (N) for principal authentication, and a CPU 25 for, when owner data D1 are read from a magnetic card 2 by the magnetic head 15 as authentication input data, comparing the authentication data N stored in the EEPROM 18 with the authentication input data read from the magnetic card 2 to authenticate the device owner based on the comparison result.
