PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module capable of suppressing the deterioration of receiving characteristic caused by the fact that one part of optical signals emitted by the own light emitting element propagates as a clad mode and is made incident on the own light receiving element.;SOLUTION: A light receiving element 11 can be arranged on the remote side from the light emitting element as seen from a transmitting optical fiber by using a surface emitting laser diode 9 as the light emitting element. That is, a wavelength division multiplexing element 8 is arranged on an optical path through which the incident light reaches the light receiving element, the incident light passes through the wavelength division multiplexing element and is made incident on the light receiving element and outgoing light from the light emitting element is reflected by the wavelength division multiplexing element and is made to advance to the transmitting optical fiber.
