PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical water decomposing photocatalyst capable of effectively converting visible spectrum light of solar rays to HSB2/SB. PSOLUTION: The optical water decomposing photocatalyst comprising a sulfide solid solution comprises a composition represented by the formula: (CuAg)SBx/SBInSB2x/SBZnSB2(1-2x)/SBSSB2/SB(wherein x is 0.150.02) obtained under a synthesizing condition including a heat treatment process of a combination condition of a temperature range of 800150C and a treatment time of 3-37 hr and has characteristics wherein a specific surface area due to a BET isothermal adsorption method is 0.9-3.6 mSP2/SP/g and a band gap is 2.00.1 and activity producing hydrogen by the optical decomposition of an aqueous solution containing a sulfur compound.
