PURPOSE: To improve the performance of a receiver using a symbol decoding mechanism. ;CONSTITUTION: A receiver for digital signal comprises a difference decoding means 10, a deinterleaving means 12, and a convolution decoding means 14 for a received digital signal. The difference decoding means 10 returns each received symbol to the original phase which it had in transmission. This allows calculating optimum measurement references M_k^a and M_k^b which are used by the convolution decoding means 14 to provide optimum decoding of received symbols.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO
