Decoding device and high-efficiency coding of the digital image signal

PURPOSE: To prevent the deterioration in the resolution of a decoded picture by compressing transmission data quantity. ;CONSTITUTION: Input picture data whose picture element is 8-bit are separated into 1st and 2nd picture element data according to a predetermined pattern by a picture element separation circuit 2. The 1st and 2nd picture element data are coded into M(≤8) bits and N(M) bits by encoders 3a, 3b respectively. Least square arithmetic circuits 7a, 7b generate a coefficient minimizing square of an error between a true value and a value of a notice picture element represented by linear combination between a decoded value of surrounding picture elements and their coefficients. The coefficient is generated from each class represented by an index from classification circuit 6. Codes from the encoders 3a, 3b and the coefficient from the arithmetic circuits 7a, 7b are transmitted.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
