A mineral concentrate comprises calcium ions (0.1-273 g/L), magnesium ions (0.1-200 g/L), chloride ions (0.1-583 g/L), and sulfate ions (0.1-276 g/L). The mineral concentrate has a total salt concentration of =5 g/L. When complemented with other optional ions, the mineral concentrate provides an electrically neutral product. Independent claims are also included for: (1) preparation of mineral water by filtering tap water with the aid of reverse osmosis, and mixing filtered tap water with the above mineral concentrate (preferably in tap water/mineral concentrate volume ratio of 25:1 - 500:1); and (2) a refill package comprising the above mineral concentrate.
