In situ sol-gel precipitation of ceramic products consists of infiltration of a solid with a sol, for controlled deposition of the selected material in the cavities into which the sol has penetrated. The final treating of the products virtually eliminates pores and increases mechanical strength properties, e.g. in composites where the precipitated substance differs from the matrix material.
