A toe and/or metatarsal protector for safety footwear are molded fromplastics material integrally or as separate parts. Each protector partcomprises agenerally U-shape body provided at the centre of its upper surface with aforcereceiving part overlying the respective central part with a space betweenthem.Each force receiving part may be integral with or separate from its respectiveprotector body part. Crushing and impact forces applied to the force receivingpartflatten it and press it toward the central part with conversion of such forcestolongitudinal forces distributed along its spaced junctions with the body partandcompression forces in the sides of the U-shape body. The force receiving platewhen separate may comprise a thin molded sheet of plastics material or metal.Each metatarsal protector may be divided along its length by transverse slotstoincrease its longitudinal flexibility so as to accommodate walking.
