A method for improving the efficiency of nucleic acid transfection of a cell, the method comprising binding an agent in a minor groove of the nucleic acid molecule to be transfected. Use of an agent which binds in a minor groove of a nucleic acid molecule in a method for improving the efficiency of nucleic acid transfection of a cell. A pharmaceutical composition comprising a nucleic acid molecule having an agent bound to a minor groove of said nucleic acid molecule and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
