PURPOSE: A video display apparatus having a language study function and a studying method thereof are provided to listen to a foreign language by using digital captions and voice data of digital broadcast, and to directly compare a viewer's voice with a native speaker's voice while seeing the original by using the digital captions, thereby simultaneously improving listening and speaking abilities. CONSTITUTION: A voice input unit(110) receives a user's voice. A voice decider(120) simultaneously receives a voice signal inputted through the voice input unit(110) and a voice signal outputted from an audio decoder(60), and decides whether the two voice signals are identical. A controller(100) selectively controls video, caption, and voice outputs according to language study setup conditions selected by the user, and outputs a control signal for continuing a language study process.
