PURPOSE: A gain-controllable broadband fiber amplifier for amplifying a C-band optical signal and an L-band optical signal is provided to enhance the amplification efficiency and lower a noise by pumping an amplification fiber for amplifying only L-band optical signals by C-band spontaneous emission light. CONSTITUTION: A first amplifier(270) includes a first amplification fiber for amplifying a C-band optical signal and an L-band optical signal received from an external fiber and outputting spontaneous emission light. An optical attenuator(280) is used for reducing the power of spontaneous emission light. A second amplifier(290) includes a second amplification fiber for amplifying the amplified L-band optical signal. The amplified C-band signal and the secondary amplified L-band optical signal are outputted to the external fiber.
