PURPOSE: A starter circuit is provided to achieve improved switching efficiency and reduce power loss by alternately switching a pair of switching elements through a single impulse and supplying power having an operating frequency of 2.65MHz to an electrodeless discharge lamp during power factor control. CONSTITUTION: A starter circuit comprises a power factor control circuit(1), a lighting starter circuit(10), and a resonance circuit(20). The power factor control circuit includes a switching mode power supply for stabilizing power for lighting and operating an electrodeless discharge lamp(30). The lighting starter circuit turns on an internal switching element when power is input and the divided voltage reaches around 24V, and starts the resonance circuit for lighting the electrodeless discharge lamp. The resonance circuit applies RF power to the electrodeless discharge lamp by the start power supplied through the lighting starter circuit.
