The communications system contains network devices and at least one subscriber station and the method involves determining specific capabilities of the at least one subscriber station through parameter values, combining parameters at least partly into at least one class, whereby class values are associated with different combinations of parameter values for different parameters in the at least one class, and signaling the class value of the at least one class to at least one network device with at least one parameter value.
