A method for increasing the service life of seals, which, in plate heat exchangers are used in which the heat exchange in the case of a high temperature takes place, wherein the seals in seal grooves in the plates are arranged, from which the heat exchanger, and wherein the seals on one of their sides come into contact with a medium, which receives or emits heat, and on its other side with the ambient air, characterized in that a thin layer of fluoropolymer at least on the parts of the circumference of the seal is applied, the bearings on adjacent panels and are located on the side, which is facing the ambient air, or alternatively, that the bottoms of the seal grooves on both sides of the plates with a thin layer of fluoropolymer at least on the outer part to be coated, the faces of the ambient air.
