The electrical machine has mutually relatively movable units in the form of a rotor and a stator separated by an air gap, of which at least one is subjected to a varying magnetic field and has superconducting windings (4) and/or solid superconductors as current-carrying parts and an at least partly plated magnetic circuit of a magnetically weak iron-containing alloy. The alloy composition is selected so that at least in a first sub-region (1) of the magnetic circuit bounding on the air gap the saturation induction is greater than 2 Teslas and its iron losses are lower than 1.35 W/kg at a magnetic field frequency of 50 Hz and an inductance of 1 Tesla.
