A network element (SP) monitors call status of a subscriber terminal (TE) and sends a signal to a relay device/exchange (S) that connection requests directed to the TE are to be routed to the SP in the event that the TE is not called in a telecommunications network (N). The SP receives connection requests directed to the TE if the TE is not called in the telecommunications network. An independent claim is also included for a network element for telecommunications networks for communicating between a relay device/exchange and a subscriber terminal.
