The most uniform-possible illumination is promoted, and contact with the equipment is prevented, using a diffusive protector over an illumination source known in studio illumination technology. Adapting from conventional room illumination technology, a known form of high frequency control is modified and extended. In this way, each individual light is controlled in wavelength and/or intensity. The control of all essential functions is manual, covering: intensity, control of several wavelengths, selection of one from them and its individual control, integrated thermal switch protection against heating problems and change-over between wavelengths. Similarly, control of these functions by PC is feasible, with in addition, switching between PC- and manual control, control of operational interval by timer and automatic switch-off after an interval. Such control is coupled with control of optical equipment, e.g. a camera, forming an overall control system. Separate controls are provided for each illuminator. Intensity and/or wavelength are measured. Control takes place in accordance with measured results and with the investigations. In the case of the PC, results are included in the start up routine for the illumination system.
