Use of patchouli oil, patchouli alcohol or their derivatives to inhibit asexual reproduction of fungi, reduce adhesion of microorganisms to surfaces or prepare compositions for treating microbial infections

Substances (I) selected from patchouli oil, patchouli alcohol and their derivatives are used to inhibit asexual reproduction of fungi, reduce adhesion of microorganisms to surfaces or to prepare compositions for treating or preventing microbial infections. Independent claims are also included for: (1) composition comprising (I); (2) packaging, filter media, building materials, building auxiliaries, textiles, furs, paper, hides or leather treated with composition (I). ACTIVITY : Fungicide; Antibacterial; Virucide. MECHANISM OF ACTION : Sporulation inhibitor; Microbial adhesion inhibitor. Agar cultures of Aspergillus niger(DSM 1988) were incubated with patchouli oil at 25 [deg] C for 3 days. At concentrations of 0, 3, 30, 45, 60, 75 and 150 MicroM, the sporulation rates were 100, 95, 95, 95, 75, 70 and 0% respectively.
