Inhibiting asexual reproduction of fungi, especially Aspergillus strains, using eugenol and/or its derivatives e.g. by incorporation in detergents, adhesives or sealants
Inhibiting asexual reproduction of fungi, especially Aspergillus strains, using eugenol and/or its derivatives e.g. by incorporation in detergents, adhesives or sealants
Use of eugenol (I) (i.e. 4-allyl-2-methoxyphenol) and/or its derivatives (I') is claimed for inhibition of asexual reproduction of fungi. Independent claims are also included for: (1) compositions (A) or (B) containing (I) or (I') to inhibiting asexual reproduction of fungi (specifically detergent or cleansing compositions (especially liquid or solid detergents or hard surface cleaners) containing (I) or (I') at 0.000001-2 wt.%); and (2) filter media, adhesives, building materials, building auxiliaries, furs. paper, skins or leather finished with (B) (specifically (i) adhesives (especially water-based adhesives, particularly adhesives for fixing wall-paper or similar wall coverings) containing (I)/(I') at 0.000001-2 wt.% or (ii) sealant masses (especially joint sealant masses) containing (I)/(I') at 0.000001-2 wt.%. ACTIVITY : Fungicide. MECHANISM OF ACTION : Inhibition of asexual reproduction of fungi. In tests in agar plates, (I) inhibited sporulation of Aspergillus niger DSM 1988 by 20%, 30% and 100% at concentrations of 90 MicroM, 110 MicroM and 220 MicroM respectively. As comparison, farnesol inhibited sporulation by 90% at 250 ppm and by 100% at 500 MicroM.
